Thomas Houston

Editor-in-chief

Editor-in-chief Thomas Houston has been heading up Switched since November 2009, and has been designing, editing, and writing for the site since early 2007. He's especially interested in changes in digital literacy, architecture, and photography. A lifelong Apple devotee, he's been tinkering with Macs since the days of the LC. He previously interned with Smithsonian Magazine in New York, and also worked as a freelance Web designer and video editor.

Leila Brillson

Features Editor

Managing Editor Leila Brillson came to Switched from print, working as a fashion assistant at design and lifestyle publication Surface Magazine. Since being at Switched, she has worked to reveal technology's role in daily life, from interiors to fashion, celebrity news and music. Lee Bains

Editor

Editor Lee Bains has been contributing to Switched since October 2008, and has been serving as editor since early 2009. The site's leading (albeit repentant) Luddite, Lee takes a layman's approach to technology, considering it in its social, legal, and artistic contexts. Having come from the world of music and culture writing, Lee has also contributed to Guitar World, CMJ, and Thicket.

Terrence O'Brien

Senior Blogger

Terrence O'Brien has been a contributor at Switched.com since its launch. In addition to being a staple at Switched, he has contributed to Engadget, Engadget Mobile, and Techlicious. Before breaking into the industry as a Switched contributor he wrote for his school news paper at St. Francis, penning a political opinion column. Terrence's love affair with technology dates back to his first computer -- a MicroVax II. He built his first PC before he was a teen, and still opts for a DIY system over buying pre-built from the manufacturer..

Matthew Zuras

Assistant Editor

Matthew Zuras is the latest addition to the Switched team. Having interned at and written for Surface Magazine, he loves the fusion of art and design with technology -- especially if it involves biofeedback, user interaction, and wizardly interfaces. An Internet fanatic since the days of CompuServe, he is intrigued by the ways in which the digital world shapes our lives -- for better or worse. He is also an Apple fanboy.

Amar Toor

Writer

Amar Toor joined Switched in September 2009, after working in international development at the OECD in Paris. At Switched, he enjoys thinking about how social media is taking over the world, and its ripple effects on politics, media and language. When he’s not working for Switched, he’s usually writing about European music news and videos for the SHOUTCast Radio Blog, and regularly contributes political and economic op-ed pieces to The Majalla magazine. He also writes and revises more arcane international policy papers that he’d rather not talk about. In his spare time, he teaches English to adorable little French kids, and piano to not so adorable French men.

Tim Stevens

Writer

Tim Stevens is a writer and software consultant based in Upstate New York. He got his start writing professionally in the mid '90s, covering the gaming world while in college, and has since written on topics including business process management, software development, and of course lots and lots about gadgety type things. He's an avid gamer, amateur motorsports enthusiast, lover of most outdoor activities, and proud creator of the first (and possibly only) two-player game for the Sega VMU.

Jon Chase

Warren Riddle

Writer

Warren's devotion to technology first took root when his parents brought home a 128k IBM PC with, innocently enough, a slew of games. Those now vintage classics would inspire a lifelong fascination with gadgets and gaming, and, if his true dork status were to ever be questioned, he still owns most of those 5 1/4" floppies in their original packaging.

Warren served as the senior editor of his high school paper before taking journalism classes at both Washington & Lee University and The University of Colorado. He worked for the Birmingham News in Alabama, both in the newsroom and for the Life Style section, primarily focusing on movies and music. Warren also studied literature at Strathclyde University in Glasgow and, sharing a love for history with his passion for writing, archaeology through Tel Aviv University in Israel.

Caleb Johnson

Writer

Writer Caleb Johnson has been contributing to Switched.com since the summer of 2009. He’s mainly interested in the ever-growing bond between sports and technology, and how both evolve as a result. Caleb started his journalism career as an arts and entertainment reporter for his campus newspaper, where he primarily covered the local music scene. Before coming to Switched, he also worked as a reporter for a community newspaper in small-town Alabama. .
